Although it has earned the affectionate nickname \u201claughing gas\u201d because it makes you feel comfortable and less anxious, it doesn&#8217;t actually cause uncontrollable giggles. However, if your dentist is a bit of an amateur comedian or has an arsenal of dad jokes at the ready, you may be more inclined to laugh since you\u2019re already feeling relaxed!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Myth #2 &#8211; Dental Sedation is Truth Serum<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Many people are afraid that being under sedation will cause them to let skeletons out of the closet either voluntarily or if asked. The truth is, however, that not only will it not encourage you to spill your darkest secrets, but your dental team will never ask you any deeply personal questions under sedation or otherwise. However, in the off chance that you <em>do<\/em> accidentally voluntarily divulge something private, you can rest assured that your dental team is completely professional, and any information will be kept confidential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Myth # 3 &#8211; Dental Sedatives Are Addictive<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The good news is that nitrous oxide isn\u2019t addictive. Unfortunately, just like any other medication it can be abused. The pills used for oral conscious sedation have a higher chance of becoming addictive, but your dentist will only prescribe the exact dosage you\u2019ll need for your treatment, so there should never be enough to form dangerous habits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Myth #4 &#8211; Dental Sedation Lasts Too Long<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The duration of the effects of the dental sedation you are taking can vary.&nbsp; For nitrous oxide, the effects wear off within minutes of stopping. When your treatment ends, your dentist will have you breathe pure oxygen for about five minutes just to be safe, and then you\u2019ll be free to go with no lingering side effects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For oral conscious sedation, however, it is recommended that you take the rest of the day off from work or school and get a ride home from someone you know and trust.
